"Jipe" Sturgeon,date and place of birth unknown, along with his given name. "Jipe" and Martha Sankey Sturgeon, married and raised family. There son John Russell Sturgeon, born Feb. 25, 1776-77, in Delaware. "Jipe" worked on building road to Marietta, Ohio, 1810-11. His overseer, was John Rowland, who was married to Eunice Sturgeon. Also in that group was Peter Sturgeon, and Elizabeth Sturgeon. John Rowland was born about 1730, and we assume "Jipe" Sturgeon was born sometime 1740"s? John Rowland and Eunice Sturgeon Rowland, were married in Henry Co. Va. date unknown. The Sturgeon and Rowland families traveled together and were intermarried several different generations.

Lewis Thomas Jeremiah Sturgeon, born Jan. 1832, Green Up Co. Ky. Parents, John Russell Sturgeon Sr., and third wife, Anne V. Stevison Sturgeon. Lived and grew up in Scioto Co. Ohio, where he met his first wife. Her family moved to Missouri, so he married Barbara Ann Frock, Carroll Co. Mo., Aug. 1854. Parents of seven children. Marriage ended, and he moved on. Went to West Coast of California, Oregon, back through Utah, for awhile. Sometime he went back to Ohio, Ark. and Mo. Married Martha Booth and had at least on son. Believe there were several children born between 1880 and 190? when he died in Arkansas, in a fight over ownership of a cow.(Probably around Beeville, Ark.) He loved to be around water, and boats. Liked to hunt, fish, and travel.Would really like to know the other families that he had, as we are from the first son of his first marriage.

John Russell Sturgeon Jr. born, 1796, in Pa. His parents were, John Russell Sturgeon Sr, born Del., Feb. 25, 1776-77, and Wife No. 1, name unknown. John Russell Sturgeon Jr., married Elizabeth Rowland, in Stark Co. Ohio, 1821, later purchased farm in Henry Co. Ohio. John Russell Sturgeon Jr. died Henry Co. Ohio, 1849, along with at least one child. John and Elizabeth Sturgeon had several children. She was on 1850 census, as a widow, with her children.

John Russell Sturgeon, born Feb,.25, 1776-77, Delaware. Married three times. Names of first two wives, unknown. Married third time, to Anne V. Stevison, daughter of William and Catherine Voris,(Vorys, Van Vorhees), Stevison. Parents of John Russell Sturgeon, "Jipe" and Martha Sankey Sturgeon. Her Parents were Giles and Margaret Calhoun Sankey, Married New Castle, Delaware, Apr. 1748. John Russell and Anne V. Stevison Sturgeon, owned farm, Scioto Co. Ohio. Bought about 1838. Both are buried on farm in family cemetery. He died Jan. 1851, and she died 1881. Raised to children,William,1815-1830.Martha Ann, Married Samuel Hughes, Catherine, married Robert McAuley, John Calhoun Sturgeon, Married Sarah Jane Helm, and Mary Alice Collins, Margaret Calhoun Sturgeon, never married. Sarah Jane Sturgeon, Married William Musser, James Voris Sturgeon, Married Susannah Bailey, Lewis Thomas Jeremiah Sturgeon, Married Barbara Ann Frock, and Martha Booth, Maybe others. Mary Wilmina married Oliver Taylor, and Mildred Virginia, died young unmarried. Many of these are buried on family farm, Scioto Co. Ohio. Not much left of cemetery, but, Library at Portsmouth, did have copy of those buried there. May have been others without stones. John Russell Sturgeon Sr. and Anne V. Stevison Sturgeon, married Feb. 11, 1814, Washington Co., Pa.

I know he served in the Civil War, Co. B, 124th Infa. IL.
Cannot find ANYTHING in IL, IRAD holdings, except his civil war records.

Both Edward and Mary Styers are buried in Memorial Gardens, Mount Vernon, Ohio.

His daughter is Grace (Sullivan) married Gathorne Bland, he was killed then she married Sylvester Inman, her info b. 1899 in White Plains, NY d. May 1960. His father may be Timothy Sullivan and his grandfather may be T. Sullivan, the information on Grace is the only solid info I have, spouses here are unknown as well. My GGGrandfather John was born 1822-23 in Co. Wexford. He had two brothers, Daniel and Moses and one sister (Catherine/Kathleen?). All three brothers left Ireland prior to the great famine (perhaps during the first famine in the late 30's/early 40's. John married Jane Richardson in Lahore, India (now part of Pakistan) in 1847--he was 25, she 14. They had 7 children who lived (3 died), they emigrated to Australia sometime prior to 1867, as my great grandmother was born there then. They ended up in California sometime prior to 1870, then to Oregon and Washington.
I am looking for any information on WHY the brothers left Ireland and HOW they ended up in India, Australia and then US.
Would also love to hear from anyone in Australia who is related to Daniel O'Sullivan--I know there is still family there.

I believe she was Aunt to Earl B. Southard, born 1912. Her name changed to Mattie Morgan when she married J.W. Morgan. Her father appears to be John Trenton Suthard from Fauquier County, VA, who married Elizabeth Smith Sudduth. Her brothers and sisters are: Annie Dora, James Lee, Ernest Eugene, Mattie Jackson, Blanche Alpina, Lora Estella, Bessie Burdell, Murry Lester.
