JOhn D. Abbott was born about 1868 nto William Abbott and Mahala Sullivan Abbott probably in Franklin County Illinois. His father William served in the Civil War---was captured and Guntown, Mississippi and survived
Andersonville prison. He died in 1875 never recovering from ailments contracted while in prison. Mahala died in 1874. William had remarried shortly before his death a Martha Black. JOhn D. Abbott lived with his sister Sarah Matilda Abbott Carter after his father's death. He was in the 1880 census in Franklin County living with his sister but seemed to have disappeared after that. I do not know his middle name and know that many used their middle names in that time period. He was listed in William's pension papers as John D. Abbott and also on census records. So he may have gone by his middle name. Any information would be appreciated whether it be about John D. Abbott or his family. JOhn D. Abbott's sister----Elisabeth Abbott who married Henry D. Carter was my great grandmother. Her oldest daughter Julia Ann Carter Isaacs was my grandmother and for whom I am named.
